States the aim behind an action: 소개하려고 해요 is "I'm going to introduce", 편지 짧게 쓰려고 is "in order to write a short letter", 화장실 가려고 하는데 is "I was about to go to the toilet, but…". The pattern -려고 하다 is the standard way to announce what you are setting out to do, and it opens a huge share of Korean video intros. In the past tense it usually means the plan failed or was interrupted: 하려고 한 건 아니었어요 is "I didn't mean to". After a consonant-ending stem it appears as -으려고.
