Formal polite ending, after a consonant

The formal polite statement ending, used on stems ending in a consonant; ㅂ니다 is the identical ending after a vowel. It is how people speak to an audience — greeting a room, thanking viewers, announcing that a segment is starting, introducing themselves. Compared with 어요 it is more distant and more deferential rather than warmer, so a video that mostly uses 어요 will switch into this for openings, closings, and formal moments.
