습니다

Formal polite statement ending

The most formal way to close a statement — the register of announcements, speeches and the military. In all eight of these lines the speaker keeps talking straight after it, using it to land a crisp declaration and then carry on: 'The show's over, everyone. Bye-bye!'. That crispness is why entertainers reach for it even in casual videos, and it is frozen inside set phrases like the thank-you said after a meal. The everyday polite ending is 아요/어요; 습니다 is a step up in formality and distance.
