The formal question ending used when the stem ends in a consonant: 어떻습니까? 'how is it?', 있습니까?, 좋습니까?. After a vowel or ㄹ the same ending is ㅂ니까. You hear it from hosts, staff, doctors and anchors, and its statement partner is -습니다. The rhetorical -지 않았습니까? / -지 않습니까? is very common on camera: 단골이라고 하지 않았습니까? 'didn't I say I'm a regular?'.
