polite ending that honours the listener

Attaches to a verb to speak politely while raising the person you are talking about or to. As a request it is the everyday "please do this": 해주세요 (please do it for me), 걱정하지 마세요 (please don't worry). As a question or statement it asks about the other person with respect: 아세요? is "do you know?", 보이세요? is "does it look that way to you?". 안녕하세요 is the same ending frozen into the standard greeting. It is polite but not stiff — this is the default register for hosts talking to guests and to the camera.

Register: polite, listener-honouring
