Honors the person being talked about

Raises the person doing the action — a guest, an elder, a customer, the audience — rather than the person you are speaking to. It sits inside the verb, before the ending, and fuses so thoroughly that the word can look unrecognizable. Politeness toward the listener is a separate matter handled by 요 and 습니다, and Korean stacks both, which is why a single word can be respectful in two directions at once. In these examples hosts use it while asking viewers or guests to do something.
